A healthy snack to help with muscle building can be hard to find, so try this homemade beef jerky recipe. Not only does it taste great but it's easy to make, packed full of protein and no longer just for cowboys!
Ingredients
1kg lean sirloin steak
few tsp sea salt
dried cumin
thyme
chilli flakes
freshly crushed black pepper
Method
Cut the meat into thin strips.
Cover the meat in the salt and the spices so that each piece is coated.
Heat the oven to 70 degrees c and layer the meat on racks. Leave the meat to dry.
The time needed to dry out the meat depends on the thickness of the slices so check the meat after 4 hours and again after 6 hours.
Cut into a piece of the thickest meat to ensure it’s not pink inside.
Once it’s cooked pack the meat into plastic bags and refrigerate or freeze to eat in the future.
Typically, the meat will keep refrigerated for around 2 weeks.
