Background

Riyadh Al-Azzawi (born in Baghdad, Iraq) is an Iraqi British Kickboxer and the 2008 World Kickboxing Network (WKN) World Champion after a fight against 3-times world champion Tomasz Borowiec in the 91 kg category on February 12, 2008, becoming the first-ever Arab World Champion in heavyweight kickboxing with a record 34-0 at the time.

Riyadh Al-Azzawi's kickboxing career goes back to a very young age. He started his sporting career in Iraq where he became champion, winning the gold medal when he was 15 years old.

Since then he has gone on to win the following titles

· Iraq Champion World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO)

· Arab Champion World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO)

· British Champion World Kickboxing Network (WKN)

· European Champion World Kickboxing Association (WKA) and World Kickboxing Network (WKN)

· World Champion World Kickboxing Network (WKN)

Riyadh is very dedicated and committed to his sport which he has been doing for a number of years. He has had a great passion and desire since he was a teenager and followed in his brothers footsteps.

The Workout of a Champion.

During workouts the champ likes to zip on LA Muscle Possessed. This is because his workouts can last up to 3 hours per session so he needs all the energy he can get to sustain the high performance he always puts in towards his training sessions.

Warm Up - Riyadh always starts off with a warm-up to warm up his muscles and help to prevent injury. This consists of;

  • Skipping - 10 Minutes
  • Step Machine - 10 Minutes
  • Pad Work - 10 Minutes
  • Punch Bag - 10 Minutes
  • Finish off with stretching

After The Warm Up

10 Rounds of Sparing

Training

  • Squats x 4 sets 12-15
  • Deadlifts x 4 sets 12-15
  • Bench Press x 4 sets 12-15 sets
  • Shoulder Presses x 4 sets 12-15 sets
  • Barbell Curls x 4 sets 12-15 sets
  • Close-Grip Bench Press x 4 Sets 12-15 sets

When prepping for fights, Riyadh concentrates on high intensity training as it helps with his overall speed, endurance and agility. However when in off-season mode he likes to carry out heavier weights with lower repetitions for strength, power and size.

Riyadh performs this workout 5 times a week along with two cardio sessions daily consisting of 45 minutes each.

Post Training

After his workout is over, Riyadh ensures he takes a whey protein drink along with some BCAA's. He is a big fan of LA Muscle LA Whey Protein and Repo and tends to mix the formula together to give him the best results possible in terms of growth and recovery. He would then have a protein and carb meal around 30 minutes after his post-workout supplementation.

His next fight is at the end of the year Fighting in Baghdad which he will begin to prep for very soon. One things for sure he has a lot more in him, so watch this space!
