Every once in a while you hear about the new latest diet or way of eating yourself healthy. A recent trend has been the Paleo Diet – short for Paleolithic. Let’s find out what this is and how it can help you build and maintain a leaner, healthier body…
Paleo refers to the so called caveman/woman diet. This is supposedly how our ancestors ate and what is in reality the real way we should be eating. The idea is that over time, things like sugars, dairy, carbs etc have messed up our bodies and taken us away from our natural human eating ways.
The Paleo diet is said to make you leaner, healthier and fitter. The basic ingredients of the Paleo diet are:
- Proteins: grass-fed meats, wild caught fish, eggs
- Fruits, nuts, seeds
- Vegetables
- Healthy oils with omega 3 & 6
Foods to avoid on a Paleo diet are:
- Dairy
- Refined sugars
- Legumes, grains
- Potatoes
- Pasta
- Rice
- Salt
- Processed foods
- Any food made in a factory
Paleo is more a way of eating than a diet as such. You need to start by setting your mind to it and deciding that now more than ever and once and for all you will change the way you eat to change the way you look and feel.
Paleo can be hard going at first, especially for the first day or so. Stick with it. You will find that after a few days, you will wake up earlier, naturally and without suffering. You will feel more energetic, you will almost immediately start to lose weight and you will keep all your current muscles and build more too.
It’s easy to start going Paleo. Lunch and dinner can be 1 portion of meat, 2 portions of vegetables. Breakfast can be meats, egg. Here are some examples:
Breakfast, choose from: Bacon, eggs, spinach, chicken, mushrooms, sardines, sweet potato, pumpkin, smoked salmon, haddock.
Lunch and dinner, choose from: steak, cold meats, chicken, fish, vegetables.
Remember, Paleo is a way of life. If you have a medical condition, consult with your doctor first before living the Paleo way. The benefits of Paleo are without doubt the following:
- Weight loss
- More muscles
- Improved fitness
- Improved well-being
- Eradication of certain illnesses which stem from excess sugar and carbohydrates
