Bodybuilder and former Mr Scotland Alex Whelan has passed away from Pneumonia at the age of 86. Alex had competed in the same competition as Sean Connery and went on to win Mr Scotland. He was a well known figure and many a great bodies around Scotland are testimony to his great training methods. He was a training instructor at his son’s gym, Pro-Life fitness centre.
Alex was a talented footballer and won the Scottish Junior Cup with Ayrshire side Kilbirnie Ladeside in 1951/52. He also played for several seasons with Renfrew Juniors as an outside left until he injured his achilles tendon and had to stop. Alex passed away a year after giving up training. RIP Alex Whelan.
