One of the most important factors in our day-to-day lives is mental focus. We all know that a lack of concentration or tiredness in the work place causes us to become unproductive and unmotivated. There are many different things that can cause this but what are the best ways to improve it and not only fight them off but improve it in the long term and train our minds to become more productive and fully focused on whatever we decide to do?

Here as some things you can implement into daily routine to sharpen your mind and become the most productive version of yourself that you can be. Some are well-known and some of the others might just surprise you!

Get a good sleep – the most obvious cause, it's well established that if you don't sleep well then you'll be over-tired and will not be able to concentrate at all. Aim to get a minimum of 7-8 hours sleep per night. Also, try not to go too much over this either as too much sleep can also cause over-tiredness. There's a fine balance between well-rested and over-rested!

Write a to-do list – having a plan to follow is a lot easier to stay organised and to get things done. It also mentally prepares you for the day's work ahead. Prioritise your list and work through what needs to be done by rank of importance. The most urgent tasks are completed first and the others will follow after that.

Focus on one thing – multi-tasking is great if you're short on time and you can get a lot done if it's done right but if you're doing something important that requires a high standard and you want to put your best work into it then do one thing at a time. Set a good pace and give yourself a realistic time frame by which you'll have it completed.

Remove distractions – anything that you know will cause distractions should be removed from your work area. If at work, keep your phone in a drawer, close any unnecessary web browsers and immerse yourself in your research material. If working from home, try putting your phone, TV remote and other devices in the next room, put on a motivational playlist and get in your zone.

Exercise – one of the most effective ways to improve memory and concentration. Raising the heart rate naturally improves mental focus and chemicals are released that elevate mood and improve attention. All types of exercise will provide a number of health benefits and leave you feeling refreshed and ready to crack on with the day. Try and fit in a workout before work and you'll be full of happy endorphins that will ensure a productive morning at work.

Drink plenty of water – the link between water and brain function is well documented. A lack of water supply to the brain can cause problems such as reduced memory and focus, brain fatigue, brain fog, headaches and many more. Such a list alone is enough reason to make sure we drink enough water. Not only that, drinking at least 2-3 litres of water per day will increase brain function by 14% and ensure you can focus on your day's tasks.

Meditate – before there was exercise, meditation had been around for centuries and is still used today as an extremely popular method of relaxing the mind and used for many different reasons due to it's simplicity and effectiveness. Meditation can be done anywhere and under any circumstances. It can be as simple as closing your eyes for a few minutes, controlling your breathing and counting down from 10 to 1. You'd be amazed at the effects it can have on you when done regularly!

Eat the right foods – surely you've heard of fish referred to as “brain food”? Well that's because fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel and tuna, among others, are rich in heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids, which are very important for the normal functioning of neurons. Other foods such as avocados, beets, coconut oil and dark chocolate are great for improving concentration and motivation.

A great product that can also aid you in your quest for perfect mental clarity is Limitless; our amazing pre-workout, motivation booster, energy booster and "wake-me-up" super-supplement.
