Making Time For The Gym

Find out some useful tips how to squeeze some extra time for a workout

By far the most common excuse for skipping the gym is “I don’t have time for it”. It almost appears as if only a small group of blessed individuals have more than 24 hours in their day and thus “have the time” to go for a workout. That's obviously not the case! So, here are a few tips on how to make some time and take active steps towards getting the body you deserve.

Prioritise

The first step in resolving any problem is identifying that there is such. The truth, as you’ve probably guessed, is that you don’t have fewer hours than the rest of the people. Rather, going to the gym or exercising is not high enough in your priority list. This needs to change! It’s your body we are talking about and you only get one, so take care of it!

Time-For-The-Gym

Plan the Day

Once you have decided that exercising is an inevitable part of the day, you need to schedule your workout. Knowing that you need to be in the gym at 8am or 8pm will mentally prepare you to make the time to go the gym. If you leave it until you have finished all of your work or you decide that you will figure it out as the day passes by, chances are you will skip yet another day.

Start Small

No one is talking about a 90-minute workout. You might start small with just a 30-minute workout. The important bit is to drag yourself to the gym and start lifting weights for about 5 minutes. It’s easy from then on.

If you are not a gym fan, but prefer a run or outdoor workout, then again start small. A jog around the block will get you started and chances are you will continue your workout.

Be Efficient

Building up from the previous point, it is not just about showing up in the gym. It is about actually doing something. As long as your workout is intense and you are giving your best then you are absolutely fine keeping your workout short. At the end of the day, it is not about the time spent but the work done.

Listen to Music

There are numerous studies showing that listening to your favourite music can increase the number of repetitions you do, even by a few! It goes without saying that the results will be quicker and more significant if you are able to really push yourself hard. So next time you hit the gym, make sure your iPod is well stocked up on your favourite songs!

Find a Gym Buddy

Going to the gym with a friend is one of the surest ways that you will show up there. Knowing that you have the responsibility to go and train with someone who is waiting on you will give you extra motivation to make time for a good workout. A good friend will also be able to drag you out of your comfortable sofa, should there be the need for such extremes.

Well, we hope that these tips will help you get to the gym more easily and achieve your fitness goals. As Robert Collier said, success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out!
