Once upon a time in Hollywood, there were two men, Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, each with bulging biceps, commanding screen presences, and fan bases that stretched around the globe. The two action legends recently sat down for a fictional interview, in which they humorously touched on their past rivalry and the reasons why they didn't initially get along. Here's what unfolded:
The interview started with a cordial handshake and a flexing competition that saw both men puff up their chests, showcasing their still-impressive physiques, and jokingly measure each other's biceps. It was clear from the beginning that their competitive spirit was still very much alive.
Stallone, ever the storyteller, started by saying, "You know, back in the day, Arnold was my arch-nemesis. I mean, we were like Tom and Jerry, always after one another. We'd be at the same parties, and I'd have this irresistible urge to challenge him to arm wrestling. In the middle of a cocktail party!"
Schwarzenegger, with a chuckle, replied, "And he did. Right there in front of everyone. And he lost, of course. But you know, I have to hand it to Sly. He never gave up. He'd come back at the next party and challenge me again."
Stallone laughed and said, "Well, I had to. I mean, the guy was in my space, you know? He was taking all my roles. Every script that came to me, I'd find out that Arnold had already read it. It was like he had a spy in my house!"
Schwarzenegger countered with, "Oh, come on! You did the same thing. I remember, for 'Predator', I was all set to do it, then I heard that you were interested, and I thought, 'Not this time, Sly!'. So I rushed in and signed the contract before you even got a chance to look at it."
Stallone nodded, grinning, "Yes, you got me there, Arnold. But hey, I got 'Rocky,' didn't I? And what did you get? A 'Terminator' who talks less than my pet turtle!"
The room erupted with laughter, as Arnold responded, "Hey, at least I didn't have to sing in any of my movies. Have you heard Sly sing? It's like a bear wrestling with a bagpipe."
Even Stallone couldn't help but chuckle at this. "Alright, you got me there. But you should've seen yourself in those 'Terminator' shades. I mean, who wears sunglasses at night?"
The banter went on, punctuated by laughter and good-natured ribbing, giving us an entertaining glimpse into the playful rivalry that defined the careers of these two Hollywood titans. Despite their competitive history, it's clear they share a deep respect for each other, born from years of navigating the same tough industry.
In conclusion, Arnold offered a mock toast, "To Sly, the only guy who could make me look good on a dance floor."
And Stallone raised his glass in return, "To Arnold, the man who made me practice my arm wrestling skills. We may not have gotten along at first, but I wouldn't have had it any other way."
Though they may have started as rivals, Stallone and Schwarzenegger clearly developed a bond that could only come from understanding each other's struggles and successes. Through humor and a shared past, they've created a timeless Hollywood friendship. After all, as they say, the best friendships often start with a good rivalry.
