Here is a great inspirational story. For Hasan Banks, life was going well until in 2009 he was diagnosed with a very rare degenerative neurological condition called Spino Cerebllar Ataxia type 7. This disorder affects the part of the brain which controls motor skills thus causing issues with walking, balance, coordination and speech. There is no known cure for it as yet and Hasan was told by doctors that it wouldn’t be long before he would need to use a wheelchair.
That was 2009. Since then, Hasan has gone on to compete in several NPC competitions and has made his life mission to get fit and try and be as best as he can be. He started competing in 2012 to try and challenge himself. The gym gave Hassan a new aim and new lease of life.
This is what Hasan says:
"While I could sit back and complain about the negative I have come to realize that my higher power will never give me more than I can handle so feeling sorry for myself is a waste of time and energy. I will not sit back and be complacent and make excuses why I can’t do something. I didn’t ask for this disorder, but it is what it is and I am going to put my best foot forward and never give up. I plan on continuing my fitness journey with the support of my family, friends and my coach Jason Giardino and look forward competitng with the best of the best of the NPC and my ultimate goal one day joining the ranks of the IFBB. However no matter what my competitive future holds my main purpose for competing is to raise awareness about the Ataxia disorder and to show people nothing is impossible unless you tell yourself it is."
Hasan's story demonstrates that nothing is impossible and sometimes in life, the most devastating news can actually mean a positive change in your life. It is what you do with that bad news that counts.
