A lot of the time we might feel too old to do certain things anymore. We accept that we’re getting older and unable to do things that we used to enjoy because we feel that our bodies are no longer up to the task. Well on that note, it’s always great to get reminders that a lot of those feelings are all in your head and that your mind and body are capable of whatever you work for and this is one such news story.
In Rochester, New York, an 82-year-old woman by the name of Willie Murphy was getting ready for bed when a man knocked on her door and claimed that he needed an ambulance. She refused to let him in and proceeded to call the police, but he managed to force his way into her house.
Speaking to a local TV station, ironically called 13 WHAM, she said, “he picked the wrong house to break into.” That was when she instinctively grabbed a table and starting attacking the intruder with it. She also squirted shampoo in his face and was found by police beating him with a broom.
She elaborated, “I was whaling on that man. I said to myself, 'If it's my time to go to hell, I'm taking him with me! I took that table and I went to work on him... and when he's down I'm jumping on him."
The burglar may have thought that a sweet old lady looked like an easy target, but he ended up with a trip to hospital. The local police tweeted a picture with Ms Murphy after Thursday's incident, and described her as "tough as nails".
The 82-year-old grandmother defies her age by working out almost every day and says she can even do one-handed pull-ups and push-ups and can deadlift more than twice her bodyweight. If that wasn’t impressive enough, in 2014 she won the World Natural Powerlifting Federation Lifter of the Year award.
Willie Murphy is proof is no matter how old you get you are only as old as you feel. If you work out regularly, follow a healthy diet and keep your mind active then there’s nothing you wont be able to do!
