The myths that prevent you from getting a six pack and great abs. Read, apply and start seeing results from today!
– Crunches and sit-ups are the best way of getting your abs out
No. They can help develop your abs but if you have body fat, you will not see your abs.
– Going to the gym 3-4 times a week will get your abs out
No. If you go to the gym and you are doing anerobic exercises with heavy weights, you will not be burning fat at optimum levels and you are unlikely to see your abs. You need to make sure the majority of your time spent in the gym is on cardiovascular machines such as: The Treadmill, Steppers, Rowers... Don't over do it. 45 mins 3-5 times a week is good.
– An active lifestyle helps burn fat
Yes and no. Depends on the activity. If your “active” lifestyle is about stress, then you will be storing fat and losing muscle. Make sure your life is active enough to be short of “stressful”.
– Eating less will make you lose fat and get your abs out
Not really. If you start starving yourself your body will go into preservation mode and actually store more fat. Eat small healthy meals throughout the day. Don't be afraid of eating. As long as you are not eating junk and you are exercising, you won't get fat.
– Working a certain area will get that area slimmer
No way! You cannot spot reduce fat. Women, you will not reduce the fat on your arms by training them! You may get some muscle there and change the appearance but bodyfat is an overall thing. Same with crunches. The more crunches you do, does not mean you are likely to see your abs more!
– If you skip a day or so, your muscles will turn to fat
Err, no! Don't stress. Change your lifestyle and incorporate a good exercise regime in your life. If you have to miss a day or two here or there, that's ok. Muscle doesn't turn to fat. Obviously a prolonged absence can mean a loss of muscle and accumulation of fat but you are smarter than that, right?
– A thin person is a healthy person
Not necessarily. Generally, those with six packs lead a healthier life. Don't go over the top. Change your exercise regime and the way you eat gradually and you will reap the benefits.
– Supplements don't really get rid of fat
Wrong. With so many fat loss products you are right to be sceptical. Some products actually do work. Take Fat Stripper for example. It has been selling for close to 10 years in 93 countries and it definitely works.
– Only younger people can have a decent six pack
Not really. It is probably easier for a young person to get and keep a set of abs. Older people are busier, have less time, sometimes eat more (dinner out etc) and are lower on certain fat burning hormones. This does not mean all hope is lost! An older person must be a bit more careful with their diet, be more disciplined and possibly take some assistance in the form of muscle preserving supplements such as Sculpt or fat loss supplements.
– If you don't stick to low fat foods, you will never get your abs out
No. This is wrong. The most important thing to pay attention to is carbohydrates. You can have all the no-fat and low-fat foods in the world but if you are taking in too much carbohydrates, you will not see your abs. Reduce your intake of pasta, potatoes, rice and bread dramatically.
